Last update: March 10 2009

March 10 2009

The hull is finished.

March 9 2009

One plank to finish.

While waiting for the glue to harden, chiselled out slots for the outer stems.

March 5 2009

5 planks to finish

  Shear line sawn
Shear line built up with a few short planks

Feb 26

Filling in the "football"

Feb 17

Determined the centre line with string and marked it on with pencil..

Then cut with Japanese saw and tidied up with a small block plane.

Feb 16 2009

Finished one side today. Intend to cut down the centerline tomorrow and then to start filling in the other half.

  Feb 12 2009

Feb 10 2009

No longer to add strips both sides. Now fitting strips on one side only and marking the centre line as I go.

Feb 4 2006

With freezing daytime temperatures the last two weeks the build has been at a standstill.

The last two nights it did not freeze (just ) and have added some more strips on both sides.

Jan 19 2009

Some progress. Accent strip of walnut has been added and further strips built up.

Getting slightly more difficult as there is now twist in the strips as the vertical angle changes from the middle of the hull towards the bow and stern.

January 14 2009

A few more strips have been added the last two days.

Building has been  at a standstill for the last three weeks as it has been so cold.

Wonderful weather if you want to go skating but not for building a canoe.

December 24 2008

Finally started glueing.

Strip is held in position with clamps.

December 23 2008

Lined up the first strip on both sides and glued the ends.

Used a few staples as well to hold in position.
